Who AM I?
Any art form done well that evokes an emotional response inspires me. Whether it’s Ella Fitzgerald’s scat or sitting in an auditorium and witnessing a script come to life. I’ve always enjoyed escaping reality for a bit and losing myself in my imagination. Movies, especially children’s films produced by studios such as Disney, Pixar, and DreamWorks, are some of my favorite examples of different forms of art coming together and making something timeless.
Monster’s Inc. was the film that changed it all for me. I went with three of my best friends. It was the first movie to make me cry and it fascinated me to no end how much life was put into the characters. The story wasn’t one I’d heard before and the aesthetic of the characters was interesting because they were stylized and realistic at the same time. While my friends were talking about how funny the little green guy looked on the car ride home, I was asking my mother how everything looked so real and wondered whether they used clay because “that so wasn’t a drawing.” Now I’m about to graduate college with a BFA in 3D modeling and animation and I know how to model, to texture and render out a 3D scene and I now know how to answer all those questions I had so long ago.
Modeling is what I focus on because I have the opportunity to visualize people’s ideas. I can help them create a mock up of an interior design, the house they want to build for their family or the character they’ve doodled on all their assignments. Creating visualizations that inspire people or can change how someone feels at that moment is my end goal, and I am proud to have that ability.
With this ability comes responsibility and because of this I never want to limit myself in the 3D world, I want to be well rounded. My goal is to be the girl who does it all and does it well, and becoming a 3D modeler is the next adventure and I’m excited for the ride.
